It's Legal. They're Legal.

It’s Christmastime, and my son is home on break from college. It’s his senior year - he turns 22 in six weeks. He invites a friend from South Carolina to visit after Christmas, and they’re joined by another friend who lives locally.
Along about day two of their visit I smell the distinct odor of weed wafting through the upstairs rooms. I peek into the tv room and see they’ve got the windows open to release the smoke, while a pounding rainstorm courses its way in. I pull my son aside to ask him about it. It’s a tricky conversation, since weed is legal in CA, and the boys are legal now too.
“I’m not really sure how to navigate this,” I tell him. “What do Tim’s and Noah’s parents do?”
“Well, Tim’s parents wouldn’t be down with it at all. But, it’s not legal in South Carolina either.”
“What about Noah?”
“His parents smoke every night.”
I feel old. “Ok. Do it here but in the garage so you don’t stink up the house. No driving, but you know that.”
The next day I mention it to a friend. “It’s everywhere,” she confirms. “Every age is using it now.”
She’s not wrong. Truth be told, I do like the CBD oil I sometimes use for sleep. And the gummy I ate recently at a friend’s was pretty darn fun too. We’re not in Kansas anymore. Could be high time for another pivot.
